What is a Digital Signature?


A Digital Signature is an electronic, encrypted stamp of authentication on digital data (documents, forms, etc.).
It ensures the authenticity, integrity, and non-repudiation of electronic documents.
Digital signatures are legally valid under the Information Technology Act, 2000 in India.
They are widely used for secure online transactions, tax filings, tender submissions, and more.

Types of Digital Signature

Sign : Used for document signing to ensure data integrity and confirm the signer’s identity.
Common for ITR, MCA forms, etc.

Encrypt : Used to encrypt documents so that only the intended recipient can read them.
Ensures confidentiality of information.

Sign & Encrypt : A combination of signing and encrypting a document.
Provides both authentication and confidentiality in sensitive communications (e.g., e-tendering).

Classes of Digital Signature Certificates (DSC)

🔹 Class 2 DSC (phased out from January 2021 as per CCA guidelines)
Earlier used for filing ROC, IT returns, etc.
Replaced by Class 3 DSC for enhanced security.

🔹 Class 3 DSC
High-assurance certificates for sensitive transactions.
Required for e-tendering, e-procurement, patents, trademark filings, and other high-security needs.
Now the standard for most official and legal filings.

Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate

Class 3 digital signature certificate according to IVG guideline which is more secure in comparison to class 2 certificate, this is the safest of all certificates. It is used in matters of high security and safety. It is mainly used in online trading and e-commerce, where a huge amount of money or highly confidential information is involved. If you opt for class 3 certificate, all applications which are created for Class 2, should be able to recognize your certificates. Following are the main functions of Class 3 certificates -

  • E-tendering
  • Patent and trademark e-filing
  • MCA e-filing
  • IRCTC Agent Login
  • ICEGATE
  • Customs e-filing
  • E-procurement
  • E-biding
  • E-auction,etc

DGFT Certificates.

We have a special Digital Signature certificate for IEC code holders, this certificate is specifically used for DGFT portal


Validity

Validity of digital signatures starts from 1 year and goes upto 3 year maximum

Who could buy Digital Signature Certificate?

There is no limitation on who could buy our certificates, people and organization from India and outside India can buy our certificates, provided they meet our Verification Guidelines.

Individuals

The DSC is for Indians, who do not want their organization name to be part of the certificate.

Organization

Ths DSC is for companies (any type of entity), who want their organization name to be part of DSC

Foreign Individuals

The DSC is for foreigners and would like to use our certificate in their name.

Foreign Organization

The DSC is for Organizations registered outside India would like to use our Digital certificates.
